LAKE REGION SAILING CLUB BEGINS SEASON

The Lake Region Sailing Club initiated its sailing season with three sailing regattas inside of a single week.   First was the start of the Lake Region Physical Therapy Tuesday Night Racing Series, followed by the annual July 4th Searles Construction Regatta.   And the following week brought the second of the Tuesday night competitions.

The weather for all featured an ongoing experiment in sauna technology, with fans added for means of propulsion.   There was wind, but mostly there was Hot, Hot and did I mention Hot?

Record breaking temperatures are more the norm for August, and generally bring no wind at all.   But despite the sameness of the heat, the wind was not so consistent.   On the first Tuesday it was fairly breezy to downright windy, sou’   by sou’west.   On Saturday’s Searles Regatta, (sponsored by Searles Construction of Harrison), it was light to moderate from the south, with an occasion blast that had a boat or two nearly flattened by the puff.   And on the second Tuesday, July 6th, it was a diminishing northerly as the evening came on.   In these conditions, even the best of sailors had their personal temperatures tested.

Kudos and thanks to Paul Follansbee, Nancy Boucher, Walter Read, Craig Trend and Barbara Zoeller and others who acted as Race Committee, setting the courses and running the starts.   Without these folks, there would be no racing at all.
